We had a blast at the 26th Annual Glen Burnie Memorial Day Parade this past weekend. The annual event is held on the Sunday before Memorial Day Weekend. The banner was created by one of our talented daycare children. A big “Thank You” goes out to all of the parents who participated and allowed their children to participate.

Our Pizza Party was awesome! While the parents enjoyed a night out the children engaged in cooking fun. Each child decorated their own chef hat and had the opportunity to make their own pizza. While the pizza cooked we had fun creating a pizza themed craft.

Our Easter Party was FUNtastic. The parents enjoyed “Parents Night Out” while the children decorated eggs, created masterpieces using a variety of craft materials and enjoyed a Easter egg hunt. We made sure that each child present knew that Jesus is what Easter is really about before allowing them to take part in the activities. Fun was had by all age groups.

These craft stick puppets were really easy to make and with the children’s imaginations the fun went go on and on. All you need is craft sticks, markers, glue, construction paper, yarn or other craft items you have around your home for embellishments. These were done by our 5 and up group. For toddlers you can cut shapes and have them apply them to the sticks using glue or give them a variety of markers and embellishments and watch their creativity take over. Watching the older kids put on shows for the younger kids is always a blast.

Our Cupcake Fun event was a sweet success. The parents enjoyed “Date Night” while the children baked and decorated cupcakes, created fun cupcake crafts and more. We made our own version of a cupcake photo booth and took tons of silly photos.

We’ve been having a lot of fun with crafts. Below are Rockets and Robot crafts our 4 and up group created. It’s a simple yet great way to review shapes and practice writing skills. It’s amazing how creative we can be with a few paper shapers, construction paper, scissors, markers and glue.

I bet you thought toothbrushes were only for brushing your teeth! Here is a work of art created today by our 20 month old. It was such a fun project to watch her create because she loves to work with paint but does not like to get her hands dirty. She got to learn more about different textures and colors while doing something she already enjoys doing. All that was needed for the project was construction paper, paint and a toothbrush.

Lovely flower craft we made using leftover scrapbook paper scraps and construction paper. We had a chance to talk about patterns and shapes as well as practice gluing, punching and cutting properly.

Supplies:

1. Patterned scrapbook paper scraps
2. 1 piece of 11×17 construction paper
3. 1 piece of colored construction paper
4. 1 piece of green construction paper
5. Scissors
6. Glue
7. Fiskars heart shaped squeeze punch (optional)

I cut scrapbook paper scraps into the shape of flower petals. Each child glued the flower petals onto a piece of 11×17 construction paper. I used construction paper scraps from another project to cut a circle which my six year old glued to the center of the flower on top of the flower petals. Three year old glued on the stem which was cut from green construction paper scraps. Three year old punched scrapbook paper scraps of a different pattern into heart shapes using a Fiskars heart shaped squeeze punch. Six year old cut the hearts in half using scissors to form leaves. Three year old added the leaves to the stem using glue.

We used materials that I had on hand. You could alter this project by using all construction paper or all scrapbook paper. Also, if you don’t have 11×17 construction paper you can use a standard sheet of construction paper making sure to cut the flower petals smaller. It’s a pretty versatile project. Let your kids creative juices flow.

Letters From God by Patrick and Heather Doughtie is a wonderful story. It is about a little boy who writes a letter to God to ask Him to help him to find his compass so that he can take it with him on a fishing trip with his Grandpa. On his way to the mailbox to mail his letter, the little boy comes across neighbors who are having trouble which prompts him to add to his letter to God on their behalf. After reading the story, I talked with the children about the importance of praying not only for ourselves but for others as well. We also talked about the importance of thanking God when we pray.

The children created a mailbox using a tissue box and construction paper. They decorated the box with stickers, gems and flowers made of construction paper and card stock. They each wrote a letter to God to be placed in the mailbox.

The Tiger is one of our favorite zoo animals. The children enjoyed learning about tigers today and creating the tiger mask craft below. Here is how we did it:

Supplies:

1. Tiger mask printout
2. Orange and black crayons
3. Scissors
4. Craft stick
5. Glue

I cut out the tiger mask printout. Each child colored their masks using orange and black crayons. I cut out the eyes of the mask. The children then glued the craft sticks onto the back of their masks. Easy peezy.
